Externally-registered management systems

NSCL maintains management systems registered by National Sanitation Foundation – International Strategic Relations (NSF-ISR) to the ISO 9001, ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001, and ISO 27001 standards.

ISO 9001 Quality Management System Policy

Through a strategy of continuous improvement and teamwork, the Laboratory is dedicated to delivering world-class beams of rare isotopes and to deliver the FRIB Project scope on schedule, within budget, with safety, and with high quality, to enable its users to achieve their scientific objectives.

The foundation for achieving the policy goals is based on: 

  • understanding and meeting the requirements for all of Lab customers, 
  • continuously improving all of Lab processes, 
  • effectively utilizing the creative talents of Lab employees, and 
  • meeting statutory, regulatory, and all other requirements.

ISO 14001 Environmental Management System Policy

All laboratory personnel, users, contractors working on site, and visitors are responsible to adhere to the following principles:

  • Environment: NSCL protects the environment, conserves resources, and strives to prevent pollution.

OHSAS 18001 Occupational Health and Safety Management System Policy

All laboratory personnel, users, contractors working on site, and visitors are responsible to adhere to the following principles:

  • Safety: NSCL maintains a safe workplace; all personnel plan and perform their work safely. NSCL works within predetermined controls designed to prevent injuries and incidents. NSCL takes responsibility for the safety of employees, coworkers, visitors, and guests.
  • Health: NSCL protects human health within its boundaries and in the surrounding community.

In achieving the policy goals, NSCL commits to:

  • Compliance: Compliance with all applicable environment, safety, and health requirements.
  • Transparency: Maintaining open, proactive and constructive relationships with its employees, users, campus communities, neighbors, regulators, funding agencies, and other stakeholders.
  • Continual improvement: Improving environment, safety, and health management and performance through a framework of setting and reviewing environment, safety, and health objectives and targets.

ISO 27001 Information Security Management System

“The Business IT Department shall provide information technology services that preserve the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of information in support of the laboratory’s mission.” All laboratory personnel, users, contractors working on site, and visitors are responsible to adhere to the Information Security Policy.

The general objective for the information security management system is to deliver secure and reliable information technology services

This objective aligns with the laboratory’s mission and vision.
